Trial Database: Counseling and Therapy in Video
Counseling and Therapy in Video is a collection in the Alexander Street Press *Critical Video Editions®* series, containing more than 300 hours of training videos, reenactments, and footage of actual therapy sessions conducted by renowned psychiatrists, psychologists, and social workers. The videos are designed for training and continuing education, providing a firsthand look at the realities of working with clients and the challenges associated with putting theoretical concepts into practice.

Counseling and Psychotherapy Transcripts, Client Narratives, and Reference Works contains more than 2,000 transcripts of actual therapy sessions-almost 40,000 pages of first-person accounts, together with 25,000 pages of major reference works. There are diaries, letters, autobiographies, oral histories, and personal memoirs along with the full-text of the sessions themselves. All accounts are non-fiction, delivered in the first person and, where possible, contemporaneous.

Trial ends March 30, 2010.

Renovations in the Library
ConstructionWe're donning our hardhats! Renovations to the New Westminster campus Library begin Monday, December 21st and continue through January. The Electronic Library Facility (ELF) will be closed for the duration, but if you're looking for an available computer, try the 5th and 6th floors. If you're an instructor and would like to book a Library Research class, please contact Lisa Sim or Patti Romanko.

Our collection is also temporarily moving around a bit. You'll find the CDs at the back of the library in the AV lab sitting on shelving trucks for the time being, and the LP records have been moved entirely into storage. If there's something you need though, just ask at the front counter and we'll retrieve it for you.

Lots of noise initially, but more student space in the end!

Douglas College Living Library is hoping no one is left on the shelf when it hosts the third "live" event in the TriCities on Thursday, November 26.

The event, which runs from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Douglas College Library Coquitlam campus, is co-hosted by Coquitlam Public Library which has provided some of the books.

"We have some great people volunteering as books so we hope lots of people will come to the David Lam Campus Library and check them out," says Carole Compton-Smith, director of library services at Douglas College.

"Books" can be borrowed for up to 20 minutes to answer questions about their areas of expertise.

Some of the books at the November 26 event have titles, including Kim Longmuir, Picture This, on pictographs of BC's interior, Mardi Joyce, What's Your Sign on astrology and Luc Lang, Glazier: A Glass Act, on the art of stained glass. Others are still coming up with their titles but include Dan Ledsoe on organizing exhibits of fine art, Dr. Abdul Hassam on Islamic religion and culture, Hudson Andrews on psychiatric nursing and Pastor Dave Warkentin on religion and culture.

The Douglas College Living Library takes place on Thursday, November, 26 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the David Lam Campus, 1250 Pinetree Way, Coquitlam. Admission is free, everyone is welcome. Parking is available either underground or on Pinetree Way. For information, call 604-777-6173.

Double-sided vs. Single-sided Printing: an update on printing changes
Did you click on the print icon and wind up with a double-sided document? Did you really want it to be single-sided?

In an effort to go green, the College has set up the libraries and computer labs to default to double-sided printing (referred to as duplexing). Students are charged per sheet, potentially doubling the 300-page printing limit if one always prints double-sided.

But, sometimes you may still want to print single-sided. Here's how:
  1. Select the Office Button in the upper left corner (the round ball).
  2. Select Print, then Print again. The Print dialogue box opens.
  3. Select the Properties button in the upper right corner. The Document Properties dialogue box opens.
  4. Uncheck the box beside Print on both sides.
  5. Click on OK, then OK the next dialogue box as well.
  6. Your document will now print single-sided. This printing option will remain until you either manually change it back, or log off the computer.
You'll find these instructions and a handy reference card beside each printer. More information on printing.
